Tesla Powerwall 2 Recalled in Australia Over Fire Risk

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a product recall for certain Tesla Powerwall 2 battery units after safety concerns were raised over potential overheating and fire hazards. The Tesla Powerwall 2 is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery designed for residential and small commercial use. It allows homeowners to store solar energy for later consumption or as a backup power supply during outages. However, Tesla has confirmed that some units may contain defective lithium-ion cells supplied by a third-party manufacturer . These faulty cells could fail, leading to overheating. In some reported cases, the issue caused smoke emission and, in rare instances, fire outbreaks . While no injuries have been recorded so far, a few properties have sustained damage. According to the recall notice, most affected Powerwall 2 systems have already been remotely discharged to lower the immediate danger.
