A major milestone in India’s automotive landscape has arrived — a brand-new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility has opened its gates in the coastal city of Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Spread across hundreds of acres within a dedicated industrial zone, this state-of-the-art plant marks the first overseas production site for the ambitious Vietnamese automaker VinFast.
A High-Speed Build from Vision to Reality
What began as a bold idea just over a year ago has rapidly taken shape into a fully operational factory. From the initial groundbreaking to the installation of automated assembly lines, every stage of construction was executed at remarkable speed. Impressive Production Goals
The plant will begin operations by producing two of VinFast’s premium electric SUV models, with an initial annual capacity of 50,000 units. Plans are already in place to expand production to as many as 150,000 vehicles per year based on market demand. This capacity makes the site a powerful contributor not only to India’s EV goals but also to the company’s ambition of becoming a global EV leader.

Beyond the vehicles themselves, the project is set to create thousands of jobs in the region, with positions ranging from engineering to logistics.
