Impact of New GST Rates on Bikes in India 2025 | Commuter, Premium & EV Prices

Impact of New GST Rates on Bikes in India 2025

Impact of New GST Rates on Bikes (Effective September 22, 2025)

GST impact on bikes in India 2025

Budget and Commuter Bikes (under 350cc)

GST reduced from 28% to 18%. Popular models like Hero Splendor, Bajaj Platina, Royal Enfield Bullet 350 get cheaper. Example: Royal Enfield Classic 350 price cut by nearly ₹30,000. With this segment covering 98% of India’s market, demand is expected to soar during festive season.

Premium Bikes (over 350cc)

New 40% GST slab, up from 31% earlier. Premium models from KTM, Triumph, Royal Enfield 450cc & 650cc will be significantly costlier. This could affect aspirational buyers and slow premium sales, especially impacting Royal Enfield’s bigger models.

Electric Bikes

GST remains 5% with no cess, making EVs affordable and attractive. Companies like Ather Energy continue passing savings to buyers, boosting adoption in the segment.

Bike Insurance and Accessories

Insurance premiums now taxed at 18%. Spare parts and lubricants fall in the 18–28% GST slab, slightly increasing maintenance costs.

Overall Industry Effects

Pre-GST: Multiple state taxes led to uneven pricing.
Post-GST 2017: 28% GST + 3% cess on >350cc bikes brought uniformity.
GST 2.0 (Sept 2025): Clear divide—commuter bikes cheaper, premium bikes pricier. EVs remain the big winner.
