Dunabie wins Race 1 as Sparks gains momentum
The R&G British Talent Cup returned for a final round blockbuster at Oulton Park, featuring three races to settle the scores as a new champion was crowned. On Saturday, Jack Dunabie (Kovara Projects / RS Racing) became a back-to-back race winner – grabbing Race 1 victory. The #63 won by an incredible 5.642s, beating Ethan Sparks (Kovara Projects / RS Racing) in tricky conditions. Sparks was faced with his own challenge, fighting with title rival Filip Surowiak (City Lifting Team) in a final-lap scrap.
The conditions caught a few riders out before the start of Race 1, with Clayton Edmunds (City Lifting Racing) crashing out on the sighting lap. Surowiak started from pole position, stealing the holeshot on the run to Turn 1, with Dunabie following behind – pushing Sparks back to third. Dunabie later hit the front on the opening lap, putting the hammer down as Surowiak lost positions following an out-of-seat moment on the exit of Knickerbrook.
Dunabie quickly stretched his advantage, with his sights set on victory following his Assen triumph just a few weeks ago. Ryan Frost (Fibretec Honda by Mlav Racing) had his own challenge, dropping to P5 in the opening stages as he began to battle with Jack Burrows (Burows Engineering / RK Racing). It was an important race for Frost’s title hopes, while his rivals Sparks and Surowiak’s third-place fight was only starting to heat up.
All eyes were on the incredible podium fight on the final lap as Dunabie continued his relentless pace, a further five seconds up the road. Surowiak launched his final lap move at Cascades before Sparks responded at the final corner once more – leading to an epic drag race to the flag.
Dunabie charged to victory, beating Sparks and Surowiak as the #62’s championship lead was extended to six points following an important result. Harrison Mackay (Kovara Projects / RS Racing) finished in fourth, missing out on a podium finish as Frost crossed the line in fifth. The #24 fell 35 points behind, finishing ahead of Burrows as Joshua Raymond Jnr (Fibretec Honda by Mlav Racing) and Peter Willis (WM Racing) took the final spots inside the top eight, while George Bowes (GB | 67 / Edwards Racing) and Ben Jolliffe (Wilson Racing) rounded out the top 10.
Sparks steals crucial points as Surowiak claims P4
Ethan Sparks secured a crucial R&G British Talent Cup victory on Saturday afternoon, clinching the Race 2 win after an epic final lap scrap. The #62 extended his championship lead to 18 points after Saturday, with just 25 points remaining this season. Ryan Frost finished in second, with the #24’s title hopes coming to an end after a second-place finish in Race 2 – leaving Frost 40 points adrift. Meanwhile, Mason Foster (Mortimer Racing) claimed a late podium, impressing once again as Filip Surowiak missed out on a rostrum finish.
Jack Dunabie claimed the holeshot on the run to Turn 1, with the #63 looking to repeat his heroics of Race 1. It was a great start for all the title contenders, with Sparks, Surowiak and Frost inside the top four positions after the opening sector. Big moves were made in the opening laps, with just 10 laps to battle following earlier delays to Saturday’s schedule. Dunabie dropped back in the opening laps, allowing Sparks to control the lead.
Frost was determined to win, pouncing on Lap 5 to grab the lead for the first time in Race 2. But as always, Sparks didn’t wait long to respond, with the top three in the championship fighting for the top three spots on the podium. However, Foster was just beginning his podium attack, edging closer to the leaders every lap. Further back, Wilson Racing’s Samuel Munson and Jensen Bishop suffered their own issues – ending their hopes of a strong finish on Lap 7.
Foster remained within striking distance as Frost, Surowiak and Sparks went three wide at the final corner. It was then Foster’s time to shine, entering the podium places for the first time on Saturday after a brave move. Both Surowiak and Frost had their own big moments in the closing laps, remaining on two wheels. Everything came down to the final lap, where Sparks attacked at Clay Hill, leaving no time for a response.
Sparks won by 0.126s, beating Frost and Foster after an incredible second race of the meeting. Surowiak was left disappointed in Race 2, narrowly missing out on further crucial points in fourth – finishing a further 0.064s behind. Harrison Mackay rounded out the top five, beating his RS Racing teammate Dunabie in sixth as Ben Jolliffe and Scott McPhee (SMP Racing) rounded out the top eight. Jack Burrows and George Bowes took the final spots inside the top 10, with the championship going down to the final race of the season.
Sparks crowned champion as Surowiak wins
Ethan Sparks is your 2025 R&G British Talent Cup champion after grabbing P2 in the final race of the season. Sparks took the title by 13 points from Filip Surowiak, who ends the year second in the standings after clinching the final win of the season in Race 3. Ryan Frost claimed the final spot on the podium, finishing third in Race 3 and inside the championship standings. It was the perfect end to an incredible season, which saw five different race winners.
It was a frantic start to Sunday, with Mason Foster holding the advantage at Turn 1 before Sparks and Frost got to work, stealing the advantage from the #88 on the opening lap of Sunday. Surowiak also began to make moves, forcing Dunabie down to P5 in his quest to secure the maximum 25 points available. The #75 set the fastest lap in the process, entering the podium positions on Lap 3.
A huge lead group formed in the opening stages, with Surowiak leading from Frost and Sparks at half race distance. Jack Burrows was also showing pace mid-race, with the #16 dragging Mackay and McPhee with him to keep tabs on the front group. Frost and Surowiak traded moves, with the Oulton Park crowd treated to some incredible racing to round off the season.
In the closing laps, Jensen Bishop (Wilson Racing) suffered a crash at the final corner, bringing an early end to his season. At the front, it was Frost who led the field heading into the final lap, with the #75 pouncing at Turn 3 – stealing P1. It would prove to be a pivotal pass for Race 3 victory, with Surowiak winning in a photo finish!
Surowiak claimed his seventh and final win in 2025, beating Sparks by just 0.020s at the chequered flag. It was the perfect way to end the season as Frost earned third position, finishing his 2025 campaign on a positive note ahead of the winter break. Foster bagged fourth, unable to repeat his Race 2 podium success as Jack Dunabie rounded out the top five. Scott McPhee took his best result of the year in sixth, narrowly defeating Ben Jolliffe, Burrows and Joshua Raymond Jnr as Harrison Mackay took P10 at the flag.
After an incredible season, the 2025 R&G British Talent Cup season ended with a champion crowned. The year was packed with late drama, spectacular overtakes and a final race decider that saw rookie Ethan Sparks lift the trophy. Now it’s time to get set for next year, where things are already taking shape for another unmissable season!
