Five years have passed since Mitsubishi withdrew from the UK market, a move that hinted at deeper troubles for the Japanese carmaker. Many assumed the brand’s British chapter had closed for good. Now, against the odds, Mitsubishi has confirmed it will return in 2026 with a slew of models.
Crucially, these won’t be all-new creations, and certainly not a new Evo. Mitsubishi instead plans to introduce models already offered in its global lineup, many of them rebadged versions of Renault vehicles, with the range expected to focus if not exclusively, heavily on SUVs and crossovers.

International Motors will handle import and distribution duties across the UK, confirming that upcoming products will be sourced directly from Mitsubishi Motors’ existing catalogue.
Outlander PHEV To Lead The Way?

Beyond a brief outline of its retail strategy, Mitsubishi has kept most details under wraps. The company has said it will appoint several new retailers to manage sales and customer service while continuing to rely on its established network of more than 100 after-sales sites.

A single teaser image accompanying the announcement appears to show the current Outlander PHEV, which will likely be the first model to land in Great Britain, with others following shortly after.

Potential additions include the new Colt, a rebadged Renault Clio, and the latest ASX, which shares its underpinnings with the Renault Captur. The Eclipse Cross, expected to return as a version of the Renault Scenic EV, could also be under consideration.
“We’re delighted to be introducing exciting new Mitsubishi vehicles to our loyal UK customers,” Mitsubishi Motors UK boss Sharon Townsend said.
“Over the past few years, we’ve continued to see enthusiasm for the brand, which has strongly influenced this decision. By building on our trusted after-sales network and dedicated retailer partners, we are committed to providing an exceptional ownership experience.”
Other Mitsubishi Models
Alongside its planned UK relaunch, Mitsubishi is developing a tougher, off-road-focused version of the Outlander for the US market. If the brand’s British comeback proves successful, that model could eventually join the local lineup. The company is also preparing a new electric crossover, which will be based on the Nissan Leaf.
