This One-Off Lamborghini LM002 Wagon Is The Real Urus Origin Story

This One-Off Lamborghini LM002 Wagon Is The Real Urus Origin Story
  • Sultan of Brunei had this LM002 custom-built into a one-off wagon by coachbuilder Diomante.
  • Later owned by former-BMW and VW chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder, it now lives in Sweden.
  • Powered by a Countach V12 and stuffed with ’80s limo-style luxury, it’s basically a proto-Urus.

If you thought the Urus owed its existence to Lamborghini’s wild LM002, think again. The pickup-bed “Rambo Lambo” might be the official factory-produced dad, but this one-off LM002 wagon is arguably the real ancestor.

Built in 1986 and originally delivered to the Sultan of Brunei (naturally…), chassis KLA12162 wasn’t wild enough, or practical enough, in stock form. So in 1989, the royals called up Italian coachbuilding wizard Salvatore Diomante to transform the LM002 into a limousine-style wagon. Out went the pickup bed, in came a high-roof cabin, wrap-around bench seating and even a CRT television. Yes, this thing has a TV from the Reagan era, but 36 years later it’s as pulse-free as Ronnie.

After its Brunei days, the truck somehow ended up in the hands of former BMW and VW CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder who had it inspected and certified by the Registro Lamborghini experts. Fast-forward to 2012, and it was imported into Sweden, where its third owner apparently used it for the school run. Imagine being the Volvo-driving parent who has to park next to this silver V12 monster on 17-inch eight-lug wheels wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion BKs.

Its bodywork, originally black, now wears slightly tired silver paint, complete with scratches and bubbling. But authenticity counts for something, and underneath the patina sits the full Countach QV-spec 5.2-liter quad-cam V12 sucking air through six Weber carbs rebuilt in 2024.

You’d think Lambo would have softened the cams to make it more adventure-friendly, but no, the V12 was rated at the same 449 hp (455 PS) as the Countach. That power is channeled through dog-leg give-speed ZF manual to a dual-range transfer case and a transmission with three locking diffs.

The cabin is peak 1980s excess, trimmed in black leather with a wrap-around rear bench, dome lights and old-school entertainment hardware. The odometer shows just 11,000 km (about 6,700 miles), and now you have the chance to add a few more by bidding on this crazy SUV’s Bring a Trailer auction listing, but the sale price is likely to run deep into Urus territory.
