If a boutique hypercar built by a German engineering firm, styled by Italians, and powered by a tuned American V8 sounds like your kind of recipe, the Capricorn 01 Zagato should pique your interest. A new prototype just made its debut at Salon Rétromobile in France, arriving only a few months after the first version was shown to the public in Belgium.

While the original model wore a distinctive Verde Knokke green exterior paired with a brown leather cabin, the new example opts for a bolder Giallo Sole yellow finish. Inside, it’s been matched with a sharp blue suede upholstery that gives the car a completely different visual personality.
Fully Drivable Prototypes
Capricorn confirmed that both versions, described as “engineering-led development vehicles,” are not just design studies but fully functional and drivable. A third car is already under construction at the company’s facility in Mönchengladbach, Germany.
As the name implies, the model was designed by Zagato, complete with hallmark features like the double bubble roof and almond-shaped headlights. It also sports aggressive aero elements, gullwing doors, flying buttresses that bring to mind the Ford GT, a sculpted engine cover with dual exhausts, and full-width taillights.
Analog Interior
The interior is stunningly analog, with proper dials, a gated manual shifter, and a round steering wheel (which sounds dumb to mention, until you see what passes for steering wheels these days) featuring rotary controls. A pair of modern bucket seats rounds it out, and the mix of blue suede and exposed carbon fiber ties it all together nicely.
American Muscle
Under the skin, the Capricorn 01 rides on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and packs a mid-mounted, supercharged 5.2-liter V8. The engine, originally sourced from Ford, has been extensively modified to produce over 888 hp (662 kW / 900 PS) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque.
Capricorn claims the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0–62 mph) in under 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 360 km/h (224 mph).

All that power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox, staying true to the analogue spirit of the build. With rear-wheel drive, a dry weight under 1,200 kg (2,646 lbs), and raw V8 thrust, the performance potential looks serious.
Few Left, If You’re Quick
First customer deliveries of the Capricorn 01 Zagato are schedule for later this year. According to the company, only a “minimal number” of the planned 19 units remain available, even with a price tag of €2.95 million (roughly $3.5 million at current exchange rates).
At that level, it’s going toe-to-toe with heavy hitters like Ferrari, McLaren, Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Pagani.
Still, the fact that Capricorn already has three fully functional development prototypes suggests they’re serious. This may be the company’s first production car, but their lightweight components have already been used by Porsche in LMP1, Peugeot Sport at Le Mans and Dakar, Mercedes, Lotus, and Caterham in Formula 1, and Volkswagen in WRC.
