Biketrac 2025 Theft & Recovery ReviewBikeTrac, the firm behind the well established and highly respected motorcycle security tracker, that has been protecting motorcyclists for more than a decade, has today published its 2025 theft statistics, giving an interesting insight into bike thefts and trends, with notable highlights for the brands and regions most affected.

Launched nearly 15 years ago, BikeTrac was the first truly dedicated security tracker designed specifically for motorcycle and scooter applications, with full support provided via a 24/7 Secure Operating Centre as part of the service. Since inception, BikeTrac has been responsible for recovering more than £17m worth of stolen vehicles.

Talking about 2025, BikeTrac’s Bill Taylor, commented, “2025 proved to be a huge year for recoveries, with our biggest haul ever, with an incredible 25 bikes in just one shipping container. But it’s the everyday recoveries that offer the best insight into current motorcycle theft trends and patterns in the UK that appear each year.”

Indeed, 2025 threw up some interesting statistics for the BikeTrac. Notable trends showed continued focus in London and surrounding areas, but growing thefts and recoveries in Essex, Kent and the West Midlands, with the majority of thefts occurring between the hours of midnight and 4am.

The most targeted brand protected by BikeTrac in 2025 was by far Yamaha, with its MT range sadly very popular with bike thieves, especially in the London area. In 2025, BikeTrac alone recovered just short of 70 Yamahas, while 27 Hondas were recovered and 20 BMWs.

Taylor continued, “The theft trend for brands is interesting, because Honda has historically been by far the most stolen brand, simply because of their sales volume and widespread model range. But for 2025 this has changed significantly, with Yamaha now the most targeted brand from our experience, with the MT07 the most stolen model. Another notable trend is BMW, having seen a lull in previous years, in 2025 we saw an increase in thefts, particularly GS models again.”

In terms of Geography, BikeTrac has also seen more activity outside of the home counties, with an increased spread across the country, with thefts as far north as Edinburgh and as south at Torquay, while the Republic of Ireland has seen an increase for the firm too.

Taylor rounded it up, “Clearly these trends and statistics are based on our direct on the ground work with owners and local police, but from experience over the years, the trends we see are very relevant to bike theft in general across the UK. In 2025 alone, we recovered over £1.5m worth of stolen motorcycles, and maintained a recovery rate of more than 90%. Sadly this demonstrates that bike theft is not showing any signs of slowing down, and we’re seeing more widespread theft geographically too.”Biketrac 2025 Theft & Recovery Review
