Jay Kay’s LaFerrari Recently Sold For $5.8 Million, Felipe Massa’s Could Top It

Jay Kay’s LaFerrari Recently Sold For $5.8 Million, Felipe Massa’s Could Top It
  • Felipse Massa owned the hybrid hypercar from 2014 through to 2021.
  • The Brazilian F1 driver signed its dashboard, and it has a special plaque
  • RM Sotheby’s expects the LaFerrari to sell for as much as $6 million.

Those wanting the chance to buy one of Ferrari’s limited-edition models usually need to own a huge collection of other cars from the Italian brand to even be in the running to place an order for something like a LaFerrari or F80. As it turns out, racing for the Ferrari Formula 1 team also grants you exclusive access to these cars.

Brazilian racer Felipe Massa drove for Ferrari for eight consecutive years between 2006 and 2013, and shortly after leaving the team, picked up the keys to one of just 499 LaFerraris ever built. Ferrari allowed Massa to spec the car in Nero black with Rosso Corsa red pinstripes along the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser.

This black and red LaFerrari also carries a plaque between the seats reading ‘Grazie Felipe’ with the signature of then-CEO Luca di Montezemolo. Massa signed the car’s carbon fiber dashboard himself and kept ownership until 2021, when a Danish collector bought it. The hypercar is now up for grabs through RM Sotheby’s, with an estimate between $5.5 million and $6 million.

Low Miles And A Clean Record

While Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar is now more than twelve years old, this one has been driven fewer than 2,485 miles (4,000 km). Evidently, Massa preferred looking at the car rather than actually driving it through the streets of Monaco, where it was originally registered. It was serviced last month by Denmark’s only certified Ferrari service center and presents a rare opportunity for a collector to get behind the wheel of a truly unique example.

Like most cars, LaFerraris vary quite a lot in price depending on mileage. In April, the Signal Green car, once owned by singer Jay Kay, was sold for just over €5 million (about $5.81 million at current rates), and that car had been driven over 6,835 miles (11,000 km).
