  • Both the soft top and the RF will be available with this new color.
  • Incorporated within the green paint are blueish metallic flakes.
  • This is the very first shade of green that’s been offered for the ND MX-5.

Mazda has given the MX-5 a brand-new color, though whether it ever reaches the United States, and when, is anyone’s guess. What we can tell you is that it is not some lurid green that leaves people wondering whether you raided Lamborghini’s paint chart.

The new color is called Zinc Green Metallic and according to the car manufacturer, it creates “a strong presence while harmonizing seamlessly with both natural landscapes and urban settings.”

Mazda notes the color takes inspiration from the shade of zinc chromate primer used across various industries. Added within the paint are blueish metallic flakes, making it look a little more striking. Frustratingly, Mazda has only released a single image of the MX-5 in this new color, so it’s hard to say how it will look in different lighting.

Both the soft-top MX-5 and the MX-5 RF with its retractable hardtop will be offered with this color. It looks particularly striking when contrasted with simple black wheels, ensuring the paint remains the center of attention. While Mazda has plenty of history with shades of green, this is actually the first time the fourth-generation MX-5 has been offered in that shade.

Mazda hasn’t said if MX-5 buyers will have to pay extra for Zinc Green Metallic. It also notes that the color’s availability will vary by market, though it’s not yet ready to announce which markets will get it or when.

What About The Next MX-5?

While the market for small, lightweight sports cars is shrinking, the current ND MX-5 is expected to stick around until towards the end of the decade. With that being said, Mazda has begun developing its successor and has committed to keeping it light and affordable.
