Skoda’s Three-Row EV Brings 373 Miles To The Kia EV9 Fight

Skoda’s Three-Row EV Brings 373 Miles To The Kia EV9 Fight
  • Skoda dropped official design sketches of the new Peaq SUV.
  • The three-row electric flagship will officially debut on June 23.
  • It will offer up to 295 hp of power and up to 373 miles of range.

Every brand needs a flagship eventually, and Skoda’s is about to arrive with a name that looks like a typo. The company has released sketches of the all-new Peaq, our first proper look at the design of the electric three-row SUV. It gets its global premiere in Monnetier-Mornex, France, on June 23.

We already knew the shape from camouflaged prototype shots earlier this year, but the sketches fill in the details. The production car evolves the Vision 7S Concept of 2022 and slots in as the fully electric counterpart to the Kodiaq.

The Peaq wears Skoda’s Tech-Deck face, much like the small Epiq, though with extra lighting worked into the grille. The T-shaped taillights carry over too, here with their own LED signature. The front bumper drops the concept’s rugged skid plate for something more restrained, a shape Skoda says was modeled on a volcano. Make of that what you will.

The plastic cladding on the bumpers and wheel arches appears to have a distinct texture, a hint at sustainable materials. As ever, the sketches exaggerate the proportions, here with enormous alloy wheels. Even so, you can make out the clean surfacing along the profile, the flush door handles, and the contoured areas above the front and rear fenders.

The sketches stick to the exterior, but we already know plenty about the cabin. Among the highlights are a 13.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, an augmented-reality head-up display, an electrochromic panoramic roof, ergonomic massage seats with leg rests, a high-end audio system, and recycled materials.

At 4,874 mm (191.9 inches) long with a 2,965 mm (116.7 inches) wheelbase, the Peaq should have room to spare. Skoda has confirmed two layouts, a five-seater with 1,010 liters (35.7 cubic feet) of cargo or a seven-seater with 299 liters (10.6 cubic feet) behind the third row. Both also get a 37-liter (1.3 cubic feet) frunk.

The electric SUV rides on the MEB architecture, offering a choice between two battery sizes and three powertrains. More specifically, the power outputs are 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) for RWD versions, climbing to 295 hp (220 kW / 300 PS) for the dual-motor AWD model. The batteries have a capacity of 63 kWh or 91 kWh, offering up to 600 km (373 miles) of WLTP range.

The market launch of the Skoda Peaq is expected shortly after its debut on June 23, with production taking place at the Mlada Boleslav facilities in the Czech Republic. Rivals include the Kia EV9, the Hyundai Ioniq 9, and the Peugeot E-5008.
