Chery’s New Budget Fastback Wears More Audi Than Some Audis

Chery’s New Budget Fastback Wears More Audi Than Some Audis
  • Chery released official images of the new Arrizo 7 in China.
  • The fastback sedan features strong Audi design influences.
  • Full specs will be revealed on August 21 at Chengdu Auto Show.

Chery has put out the first official images of the new Arrizo 7 ahead of the car’s public debut at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21st. The Audi cues are laid on thick, which won’t surprise anyone who saw the Arrizo S Concept. What we get is a fastback sedan with an Ingolstadt face and a Wuhu badge, and Chery seems entirely comfortable with that.

The original Chery Arrizo 7 was sold in China between 2013 and 2018. Eight years after it was pensioned off, Chery is back with a second generation the company promises will blend “Eastern wisdom and global aesthetics.”

Up front sits a softened take on Audi’s Singleframe grille, bracketed by RS-style bumper intakes and sharp LED headlights. Those lamps echo the new Audi A6, though the internal graphics land closer to the VW T-Roc crossover.

The profile is defined by front-wheel-drive proportions, five-spoke alloys, clean surfacing, conventional door handles, and a fastback tail with horizontal LEDs. The overall shape lines up with the electric Chery Fulwin A9, minus that car’s elaborate ADAS sensors, body-mounted mirrors, and flush handles.

Chery has not yet disclosed the technical specifications of the Arrizo 7, which are expected to be announced on August 21st at the Chengdu Auto Show. However, local media report it will be powered by non-electrified gasoline engines.

Chery Arrizo 8 Pro

The new car joins Chery’s combustion sedan range alongside the Arrizo 8 and the recently launched Arrizo 8 Pro. The Pro comes with turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines and runs from ¥113,900 to ¥145,900 in China, or roughly $16,900 to $21,600.

A few months back, Chery showed the Arrizo S concept, which took its face from the Audi RS6, its side profile from the A5, and its lighting signature from the A7. That one is expected to reach production as another sloped-roof sedan, most likely sitting above everything else in the local lineup.
