Lexus Hands Its Second Best-Seller The RX’s Face And The ES’s Wheel

Lexus Hands Its Second Best-Seller The RX’s Face And The ES’s Wheel
  • Lexus teases the updated NX ahead of Sept 1 debut.
  • The Japanese SUV will gain tech and styling updates.
  • Dashboard adds new climate controls and steering wheel.

Lexus has posted a pair of short teaser clips on social media showing what looks like the facelifted NX. The refreshed crossover breaks cover globally on September 1, with mild exterior changes and a reworked interior.

The NX model line was originally introduced in late 2014, with the second generation following in mid 2021. Five years later it is time for the premium sibling of the Toyota RAV4 to receive a mid-lifecycle update.

The official teasers follow earlier sightings of camouflaged prototypes during development testing. The shadowy footage hints at a new pair of headlights with two lines of horizontal LEDs. Those will likely be part of a restyled nose with an RX-style spindle grille and sporty bumper intakes.

The profile remains largely unchanged besides the new green shade, combined with dark multi-spoke alloy wheels. Lexus has yet to give us a clear look at the rear end but we expect fresh LED graphics for the taillights and a tweaked bumper.

Inside, the NX gains a modern steering wheel from the ES sedan with Lexus lettering and new buttons. The dashboard has also been overhauled with a cleaner design for the climate vents and climate controls under the large infotainment.

The display could retain the same size with the optional 14-inch touchscreen of the outgoing NX, albeit with an enhanced interface. We also get to see the front seats with red leather upholstery and a chevron pattern stitching.

The NX is based on the TNGA-K architecture and is currently available with turbo gasoline, self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. We don’t know if Lexus has made any improvements, but chances are they will all survive the facelift.

Everything else gets answered on September 1. Lexus’ second best-selling model in North America and globally, behind only the larger RX, carries on against the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60, plus the upcoming Acura RDX.
