The Ford F-Series has been America’s best-selling truck for 49 years and the company sold 828,832 of them last year. The F-150 plays a huge part in this, so it’s alarming the automaker has halted some production.
According to a memo seen by Reuters, F-150 production at the Dearborn Truck Plant ended on Thursday and isn’t scheduled to resume until September 29. The publication also noted F-Series production has been affected at the Kansas City Assembly Plant as some shifts were recently canceled. However, the Kentucky Truck Plant reportedly increased production in a possible effort to offset the impact.

It’s not entirely clear what the issue is, but an insider flagged a “supply problem.” That’s vague, but the situation reportedly isn’t related to the aluminum shortage that has hampered F-150 production. This was due to a series of fires at the Novelis Oswego aluminum plant in 2025.
The Detroit Free Press dug a little deeper and reported the halt at the Dearborn Truck Plant impacts roughly 3,500 to 4,000 people. They added 15 shifts have been canceled at Kansas City Assembly since the beginning of the month.
A Ford spokesperson told the publication they “don’t comment on supplier disruptions,” but UAW Local 249 Bargaining Chair, Jim Fisher, suggested the issue is aluminum. However, that remains to be seen and the automaker is apparently blaming a “lack of parts.”

While it’s unclear what the problem is, Novelis fired up the hot mill at their Oswego plant in June. At the time, the firm said they were “working closely with customers to ramp up supply” and would enhance their operations to “further strengthen the company’s ability to deliver dependable supply and high-quality products.”
