- Land Rover has unveiled the new Defender Wolf Series II.

Land Rover has introduced the Defender Wolf Series II, which is billed as a “next-generation light mobility vehicle” for military applications. It follows the original Defender Wolf, which served the British Armed Forces for over 70 years.
Created by JLR’s new Defender Defense Division, the Wolf Series II will be competing for the Ministry of Defense’s Light Mobility Vehicle contract. As a procurement document explains, they’re looking to “modernize capabilities currently fulfilled by legacy fleets such as Land Rover and Pinzgauer.”

The government could end up ordering more than 9,500 vehicles and they’re looking for a Light Mobility Vehicle that can spawn nine different variants. This includes a General Purpose Vehicle, a Battlefield Ambulance, a Tactical Mobility Vehicle, a Utility Vehicle, and an Enhance Protection Vehicle. There will also be Command and Control, Equipment Support, Troop Carrying, and Mission Systems vehicles.
On top of the vehicle order, the contract has a provision for support. This includes maintenance, repair, and logistics support to “sustain operational availability throughout the lifecycle of the vehicles.”
Needless to say, there’s a lot of money on the table and Land Rover wants in on the action. As a result, they’ve developed the Wolf Series II, which has already been subjected to 62,000 tests. Land Rover went on to say its chassis and body were “engineered to withstand JLR’s Extreme Event Test procedure.”
Furthermore, Land Rover said the Defender has proved itself at Dakar and during a demonstration at the Ministry of Defense’s independent testing ground. There, the Wolf Series II was reportedly the only vehicle that successfully navigated all obstacles in a show of it’s “supreme off‑road capability.”
Land Rover didn’t say much about the Wolf Series II, but pictures reveal it has been equipped with a heavy duty steel front bumper, headlight guards, and a raised air intake. They’re joined by relatively basic wheels wrapped in meaty tires. The SUV also has a roof rack and what appears to be a lift.
While the company is staying tight-lipped, four variants of the Defender Wolf Series II will be unveiled at the British Army DVD event later this month. Among the models on display will be an ambulance, a utility vehicle, a general mobility vehicle, and a tactical mobility vehicle.
