CATL Says Its New EV Battery Can Charge From 10 To 98 Percent In Just 6.5 Minutes

CATL says its new Shenxing 3 battery charges in just 6.5 minutes. The company also unveiled lighter batteries with up to 1,500 km range. CATL is betting fast charging and battery swapping will drive EV adoption. Electric vehicles are quick, quiet, and typically offer awesome packaging and an easier maintenance schedule than combustion-powered cars. Where they struggle to keep up with their gas-powered competition is on the refueling side of things. Charging infrastructure is nowhere near what it is for gas-powered cars, and when one does find a charger, it can take a long time to get a battery that’s flat back to full. Now, CATL says it’s found a solution, and it’ll charge a battery from 10 to 98 percent in just 6.5 minutes. According to The Wall Street Journal , the new Shenxing 3 battery can hit that mark in roughly 6.5 minutes, beating the approximately nine-minute charging capability BYD revealed just last month. Bernstein analysts told the publication the new ba...

Meet The World’s Fastest Standalone EV Charger

ChargePoint has introduced a new 600 kW DC fast charger. Known as the Express Solo, it can charge up to four EVs at a time. Incorporates Omni Port technology to support CCS and NACS vehicles. One of the biggest complaints about electric vehicles is a long recharging time. That could be about to change as ChargePoint has introduced their new Express Solo. Billed as the “world’s fastest standalone EV charger,” the Express Solo is capable of delivering 600 kW to a single EV. That’s significantly more than typical DC fast chargers and it could pave the way for far shorter recharging times. More: BYD’s New EV Chargers Are So Fast They’re Arranged Like Gas Station Pumps ChargePoint says the Express Solo “delivers approximately 40% higher power density than other DC charging solutions in the industry’s smallest footprint.” This makes it well-suited for use in tight quarters such as gas stations and convenience stores. The Express Solo can simultaneously charge two EVs,...

Subaru’s BRZ Finally Has A Turbo And AWD, Just Not In A Version You Can Buy

Subaru unveils Boxer Rally Spec.Z based on the BRZ. The rally car has a turbo boxer engine and AWD. It will compete at the JRC starting this May. Subaru is back in the spotlight of the Japanese Rally Championship with something that feels like a tuner’s dream come true. Instead of defaulting to another WRX-based rally car, it has turned to the BRZ coupe, reworking it into an AWD weapon. The Boxer Rally Spec.Z is a purpose-built competition animal that gives the BRZ the hardware enthusiasts have been begging for since its debut. Unfortunately, JRC doesn’t require companies to offer homologation specials, so we don’t expect the rally machine to inspire a limited-production offering More: Subaru Can’t Sell You A Proper WRX STI, But It’ll Race One Against Cars With Nearly Double Its Power Visually, the two-door coupe is dressed in a custom bodykit including a redesigned front bumper with a larger grille, a vented hood, high-clearance front and rear fenders, and a fixed ...

Audi’s 2.5-Liter 5-Cylinder

Audi is exploring hybridization to keep the RS3’s five-cylinder alive The EA855 engine fails Euro 7 rules taking effect in November Only the RS3 and Cupra Formentor VZ5 currently use this engine In an era when emissions rules are tightening faster than powertrain cycles can keep up, even the most distinctive engines are under pressure. Just as we’d started to pour one out for Audi’s iconic 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder , knowing it was on the chopping block, a new report suggests the carmaker could keep the five-pot alive through hybridization. As it stands, the EA855 fails to comply with Euro 7 emissions regulations coming into effect in November. For Audi to bring it into line, the engine would need new NOx sensors, a particulate filter, more restrictive catalytic converters, and revised injection mapping. Those changes may be difficult to justify, given the engine is currently sold only in the Audi RS3 and Cupra Formentor VZ5 . Read: Audi Is Killing Its 5-C...

Purosangue Was Expensive?

The all-electric Luce could be more expensive than the 849 Testarossa. Ferrari’s first EV may also be a lot more expensive than the Purosangue. A 122 kWh battery pack and four electric motors will be fitted as standard. Ferrari is taking a gamble with its all-electric Luce, launching it at a time when EV sales have contracted in the US, and competition from China is offering EV buyers supercar-levels of power at a fraction of the cost. If a new report about the Luce’s potential starting price is accurate, it could prove to be a hard sell for the brand. Citing unnamed sources, it’s being reported that European prices for the Luce will start at approximately €550,000, or the equivalent of $645,000. To put that in perspective, the Ferrari Purosangue SUV starts at around €400,000 ($470,000) in Europe, although strong demand for that model means some used examples are going for over €600,000 ($704,000). Nissan Killed The Navara In Europe

The Frontier Pro pairs a 1.5-liter turbo with an electric motor rated at 402 hp. Nissan says Europe is a possibility, but the truck remains under study. The pickup was co-developed with Dongfeng and is largely a rebadged Z9. A gap has lingered in Nissan’s European lineup since the Navara bowed out, and there is now a candidate to fill it. The Chinese-built Frontier Pro could be sold in Europe with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, stepping into that space. It may lack the cachet of the larger Frontier sold in North America, but there is enough here to warrant a proper look. Developed with joint venture partner Dongfeng , the Frontier Pro made its debut in China this time last year, alongside confirmation it would serve as a global model. It reached Chinese showrooms in late 2025, yet has not surfaced in other markets. That may change. Speaking about the truck, Nissan divisional vice president Jordi Vila suggested Europe remains under consideration. Read: Nissan’s New Front...
